Five arrested for kidnapping and rape of Cape Town e-hailing driver

Cape Town police have arrested five people — including two women and a 16-year-old — after rescuing a 25-year-old e-hailing driver who was allegedly kidnapped, raped and held for a R4,000 ransom in Heathfield on Saturday.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said the victim's brother raised the alarm after suspects demanded cash for the driver's release. Officers used the vehicle's tracker to locate him on Southampton Road. Police allege the driver had met one of the women through his e-hailing work the previous week; when he went to meet her, the group kidnapped him and the two female suspects allegedly raped him.

Those arrested are women aged 23 and 34 and males aged 16, 42 and 48. They are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday, 14 September 2026.
